Prevalence Autism United States
Gluten-free foods are the fastest growing category of food since 2004, see the growth forecasts up to 2012!
In short, a Nielson Co. report reveals that revenues from items labeled gluten have soared nearly 20 percent last year (2008) to $ 1.7 million from U.S. $ 1400 million in May 2007. Sales have increased 74 percent compared with 2004. Some items, like gluten-free gum and pet food, did not enter the market in 2008. "One ref
Another independent report offers similar growth projections. "The gluten-free food and beverage market: trends and developments worldwide, 2nd Edition "- from market research publisher Packaged Facts, this trend is here to stay. Packaged Facts notes that the food market gluten-free products and beverages grew at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 28 percent from 2004-2008, finishing with nearly $ 1.6 billion in retail sales year past. "Ref 2
The "Packaging forecasts made" firm in the coming years will see double-digit growth in this category due to many factors, the most important of these is the existence of more gluten-free products on the market by introducing products to the conversion of existing products to the gluten free status. In 2012, the market is expected to reach about $ 2.6 billion in sales. To meet consumers demand more 225 vendors introduced new products without gluten in the United States in 2008. Ref 2
According to a March 2007 survey conducted by research firm Mintel market, 8% of U.S. population to search for gluten-free products when they shop. Nielsen Co., which follows a gluten-free foods at the supermarket or U.S., drug and mass merchandiser stores (excluding Wal-Mart), reports that the gluten-free sector increased 20% in the 12-month period ending June 14 (2007), to $ 1.75 billion from $ 1,460,000,000 a year ago. Ref 3
A quick calculation indicates that an increase of 74% in three years is an average 25% annual growth from 2004 to 2007. Interestingly, the online demand for gluten free searches as discussed in another article Gluten Free pages, shows that for five years prior to 2009 that the U.S. market e-demand grew by 42% annually in the U.S. and 10% in Australia. This suggests that the rate growth of people searching online is almost double the growth of their actual purchases.
One reason for the dramatic increase gf (above beyond diagnosis and levels) is that "the number of people who eat gluten-free diets may be greater than the number of coeliacs. Because of the intensity intolerance, separate ovens, toasters and other appliances may be needed to reduce pollution. Thus, many families of patients lead lives less gluten. "Ref 1
As for the price of gluten-free, an article could be considered free of gluten, in fact, cheaper in the long run due to exclusion wheat gluten and cereals in the diet. It aims to "The Department of Agriculture United States reported that in April 2008 the average price of U.S. wheat was $ 371 per metric ton, double the price of $ 180 per metric ton of wheat in April 2007 average. "(Ref. 1) However, a report providing an opposite Gluten Pages forecast and many good reasons why the gluten-free products are likely to remain high costs of a long time.
The variety of options is also expanding. In 2007, 700 new gluten-free products were launched in the U.S., compared to 214 in 2004. Mintel projects, 15% to 25% annual growth rate of food without gluten in the coming years. Ref 3
Which groups of people are GLUTEN-FREE
An extensive list comprehensive, but not the effects of celiac disease appear in an article GFP. Some of the most serious types are considered "autism, multiple sclerosis (EM), allergy to gluten, various sensitivity to gluten, attention deficit hyperactivity disorder (ADHD), stress or repetitive strain injury (RSI) and irritable bowel syndrome (IBS). "Ref 2
While these are the effects of celiac disease, there are four distinct classes of people not choose a gluten-free diet. The "non-negotiable" celiac group are those with the gene for celiac disease must eliminate gluten from leading a healthy life. The second group believe that the gluten-free diet can help in the treatment of autism and a host of disorders, including schizophrenia, chronic fatigue, multiple sclerosis, the attention deficit disorder, migraine and even fertility issues. Ref 3
The third group taking a gluten-free food because they have gastrointestinal problems that improve when they go on a gluten-free diet. This group is said to be "gluten sensitivity" is not an immune response or associated condition even though the patient conclusions can not have small intestinal biopsy to meet the criteria for celiac disease, says Dr. Eric Esrailian, director general of Gastroenterology David Geffen School of Medicine at UCLA.
FOUR Group states that "Gluten intolerance, or those who experience symptoms similar to the expression lactose intolerance.
WHAT ARE THE PRODUCTS latest trends?
In the U.S. in 2009, the Natural Products Expo West, held in March at the Anaheim Convention Center had tables full of gluten free breads, pastas, pot pies, brownies, muffins, beer, cosmetics and even dog treats. (Ref. 3) As people become more aware of the prevalence of gluten in almost all types of products, which are demanding free alternatives gluten.
So what is accelerating the use of gluten-free? One source suggests that due to the intensity of intolerance (a grain of bread cause a reaction) "Separate ovens, toasters and other appliances may be needed to reduce pollution. Thus, many families of patients are gluten fewer lives." Ref 1 This is similar to the reason why only a small percentage of CD people have been diagnosed to bring their entire families gf to restaurants for the sake of the family a member of gluten free.
Surprisingly, with all the latest research there are still items on the network to do without gluten as a fad. This is due in part to fashion trends than the U.S. have seen in the past. Consider that the new food products labeled as gluten-free'' jumped 86% in 2008. But new product launches low in carbohydrates are reduced by more than half of the maximum levels of 2004. Ref 5. Other items ranging far beyond the doctors are still willing to offer a "devils advocate" opinion to the actual existence of the disease to be real. A time hope that these doctors can become doctors in the same way as some "experts" and denied that cigarettes are harmful asbestos or that the Global warming is a myth.
Precautions
And there are broader concerns. Some dietitians worry about the long- within a strict gluten-free diet in which need not be in it, because in avoiding foods with gluten, people may be nutritional deficiencies. Those who choose to the diet need to watch who get adequate amounts of vitamin B complex, and in particular to increase folic acid intake.
